Dinner with Barbara and Judy at Market Street, Rhinebeck, NY
-
Caption
-
We saw Barbara Paige and Judy Dollenmeyer on January 11th at Catherine's (Murphy) opening in NYC. We haven't gotten together for dinner for quite some time. We run into Barbara and Judy regularly in Adam's Fairacre Farms. We always talk about going out but don't seem to get around to it. So finally we did. Before dinner, we went to Upstate films to see "Faces Places," a new film by Agnes Varda

Caption

We got to NYC early enough to see a couple of exhibitions, attend Terry Winter's opening, check into our hotel, and then go to Charles Ray's opening before heading to dinner. We ran into various people we knew, including Brooke Alderson and Peter Schjaldahl, at the Charles Ray show. Both Catherine (Murphy) and I had separate differences of opinion with Peter about how to read the Charles Ray

We were asked to get to the opening early so that Catherine could give a talk to the people who work at the gallery so that they would have information if asked about the work. We got there around 5:20pm, Betty, Joellen, and Emilie were already at the gallery (see next entry). They drove down from Massachusetts and drove back the same evening after dinner. By the time Catherine finished talking

Rackstraw Downes Opening at Betty Cunningham Gallery, NYC, 1 of 5

We headed down to NYC in the morning so we could get to Davis and Langdale by around 12:30. I wanted to document the gallery because Cecily was planning to close it soon and would sell the building. I have been showing my work there since the 1970s. We then went to Sant Ambroeus (Madison and 77th) for a late lunch. After lunch/dinner, we headed to the Lower Eastside for Rackstraw's opening

This was near the end of dinner, quite spread from the front opening of the tent back through the rest of the tables. That was because there was a dancer dancing just outside the tent entrance. We all stood up to be able to watch. After dancing for a while the dancer moved to the right and took a little while for the people sitting at the entrance to realize they were supposed to follow
