Steve Bathrick

Caption

Darren (Pulver) was already here and Steve came soon after. The idea was to move two stones we had delivered from Pleasant Vally Stone. They were for two steps for the Poustinia. The little one room cottage we sometimes use for guests. Roberta Crosley, Our first tenant, who was of Polish extraction called the little house a Poustinia, a name we liked. The name connotes a small cabin used as a religious retreat. Steve had a machine that should have made it quite easy to move the stones. The delivery man from Pleasant Vally left them as close as he could to the cottage. Steve's machine as not quite the machine I was expecting. The fluid in the hydraulic lift on the top part of the machine sprayed out and that section wouldn't work. After a couple more mishaps the stones were set in place. Darren had to shift the soil in order to get the stones level. Steve hadn't been over to do work here fro some time. His son Andrew and then his son Travis took over the mowing and Andrew plows our driveway. They used to come work with Steve here (see past entries under Bathrick) but by and by they grew up and wanted to take on the work as part of their working lives.

Joyce Robins, Catherine Murphy and myself went to Bob & Sylvia's house for lunch. We hadn't seen them in over a year (the pandemic plus other issues). Catherine made a salad and dessert (a lemon cake) for Bob's birthday. We picked up dumplings at Palace Dumpling in Wappingers Falls. We met up with Joyce at Vassar and all drove down together. I had this special oddball candle thing for years which we used on the cake. We all liked it so I ordered three more online, one for Joyce for Rocket's birthday. We also looked at their new work.

Yesterday we took down the exhibit at the Pamela Salibury Gallery. Kelly is an assistant to Pamela and studied with me at Vassar College.

Ben got to work about 10:10 am because he hit a bit of traffic. First, he did the trash, then made coffee. Catherine and Ben discussed various cakes Ben could make for Sarah's birthday. Afterwhich Bern went to work on my China Project. Today he is working on the image of the entrance to the pool hall turning itto night from day. I spemnt the day working on this website as welool as on China. I am iusolating the sky from the image of the palm trees and large rock in the front of the swan hotel. The trees make this a particular painstaking operation. After we all had lunch the three of us went up toi Cathy's studio to do a simple temporary set up for a possible new painting. Ben and I spent the rest of thye day working on the China project,

The brought a whole box of great looking pastries. We visited and looked at work in the studios. Chie was going to drop Josh at Vassar, go home to Beacon and then pick him up at 5:00 pm.

Tim came to modify the facsimile of our patio that he built in Catherine's (Murphy) studio. The facsimile is for a painting Catherine is going to start soon. He cut off 3 feet from the back end and with a lever pushed the structure back to the balustrade. He did this by himself and rather speedily. We thought he would need another person and that it would take longer.

We saw her once since then but still many many years ago. Sharon has emailed for the last three years to see if we could get together around this time of year. She lives in California but comes to this area at Christmas time to visit her daughter. We were supposed to go to Montreal for Christmas but Billy wasn't feeling well so we were home and able to visit with Sharon. We had enough snacks for everyone's dinner. It was nice to see her after all this time. And also to meet her daughter and her daughter's partner.

Kallie brought the newer car to Al's because the low oil light was going on. He waited while they did an oil change. We then had lunch. After which, he did some chores and then went to Adam's Fairacre Farms to buy some things. We tried to deal with too much data on the computer. After which we went over to the heated studio and tried to make sense out of some of the photographs, partly to see if we could find the missing China photos. I couldn't take that for too much longer because the disorganization made me want to hit my head against the wall. So that's why now we are doing input on the computer.

When Kallie got here at 1:00pm the three of us worked, are working, on the site so that Kallie could get a beginning idea of how it worked. First we're going back over to the dutch barn so Simon and Kallie could vacuum and straighten up the studio. When that is done Kallie and Simon are going to remove the air conditioner to the bedroom, put down some storm windows, and that should be all we have time for.

We went to an event thrown by the Archives of American Art at Essex House Hotel on Tuesday evening. It seems that the original image file of this photograph is now lost. There were many other images from before and after this event stored on the same memory card that may also be irretrievable. The mistake occurred while moving the photographs from the camera to the folder for October 25, 2019. I was an IDIOT. I still have two images from that batch because I sent them to people and was able to retrieve them from email. I am PISSED! The day after the Archives event, Catherine (Murphy) and I went to see some art. We got in touch with Jeffery to ask if he could meet up with us. The only opening on his day was at tea time. So we arranged to meet at the Modern. After we had settled down for coffee and tea, Gary walked up behind us. He was in the Modern as well. Then a current student of Gary's, Tao, spotted Gary. So we all had beverages and visited.

We have known Mariam since Catherine (Murphy) was a visiting artist at UNC-Greensboro and the Weatherspoon some years ago. Miriam worked on a collaborative project with the poet Julia Johnson, which resulted in a book published by Photo Book Works in Beacon. Exhibited at Reading Room #3, were 12 drawings from a series of 100 that Mariam produced. Julia (who we hadn't met before) wrote poems about associations she saw in the drawings. No.3 Reading Room & Photo Book Works is owned and run by Paulette and David Rich (I may have something incorrectly here. I'm going to ask Paulette and David to correct me, if necessary). To the left of Mariam, one can get a glimpse of some of her drawings. And on the wall behind Allan is a partly blocked painting by David Rich. See the previous three entries.
