Cathy and I went to Windy Hill Nursery and to Wards for plants and bushes. After buying many plants we went to bill and Arthur's house. We had asparagus sals and drinks and visited. We were going to go the Dragon something for dinner. But it was unexpectedly closed. We got caught in an amazing rain storm. It was extremely intense and the roads were immediately flooded. We went to the closest place we could find, which was Jimmy's Italian Restaurant.

At a certain point in the proceedings Molly Nesbit started to pass the microphone around the audience, so that people could participate in the discussion. This went on before lunch as well as after. Many people spoke about various things, political and cultural. The woman in this photograph spoke (this time, she spoke again later) about growing up in Nigeria and as a child give a song to sing by the English teachers who ran the school she had gone to. This was an extremely racist song. At the time she was very young and just so pleased to have been chosen to sing. It wasn't till later as she got older that she realized what the lyrics were all about. This was an event at Bard College to inaugurate, present speakers and have a forum for an exchange of ideas in and about a new sculpture/place by Olafur Eliasson. The title of the work is the Parliament of Reality. See the previous eight entries and the following twelve entries.

Jacqueline was sitting behind me at the awards ceremony at Vassar College. She had graduated from Vassar in Art History in about 1984 or 5. Jessie had gotten two history awards. Erica told me her mother worked in the art department many years before (the 1950s?) and that the historians at that time were very disdainful of living artists. As some were in in the eighties when we, Peter Charlap and myself, formed the studio major.

By the time he realized he would have wanted to be a studio major it was too late to get the requirement done before he graduated. Daniel took many studio art courses and came to the studio critiques. The majors were pleased to have Daniel take part in the exhibition. He is the first non-major to take part in the senior show. This summer he is taking part in a sculpture program at Virginia Commonwealth University. The Feinberg Family. See the previous four entries and the following six entries.
