Caption: I had asked Mark to take a look at a fauxvoix concrete bench we have near the pond. The idea was to see if he could caste another one or two benches like that from wood. A few weeks later he sent me three different scenarios for how he would go about doing this. Because it was so complicated they were going to be very expensive. So we decided not to do it.

Caption: Tim came over to look at some models I made for new sculptures so that we could discuss working together on them. He also discussed a contraption he's making for Catherine so she could do her hand painting. Tim has really loved my coffee over the last few years. He told me he bought some Yirgacheffe coffee (from Ethiopia), which is the coffee I use. But that it didnt taste nearly as good. So i showed him the spoon I use and it turns out he wasnt using the same sized spoon as well as not using bottled water. I'll be curious to know if he works this out.

Caption: Toni (Antoinette) went crazy the last time we brought her to the vet. Elena Sisto told us about a vetinarian that makes house calls. At this point Toni was behind on two shots. So Eleanor Acworth came to the house to give Toni her feline leukemia vaccine, and Feline rhnotracheitis-calici-panleukopenia-chlamdia psittaci vaccine.

He spent the night and the next day worked on this site (putting data back into the correct order) and did some stuff of his own.He left wednesday afternoon, and I went off to a critique at school.

Caption: We had all talked about Mary coming for a visit for months. Finally we all settled on a date. She came for lunch. I made the roasted shrimp salad that I like and like to make so much and Cathy(Murphy) mad spicy cucumber pickles. We bought dessert from the Culinary Institute of America. We ate, talked and brought Mary upstairs to see Cathy's new shirt painting that was just about done and then went over to my studio. Judy Linn came over (see next entry) to meet up wit Mary to go out to dinner. Mary is a former student of mine as well as Judy.

He came over at 3:00pm so Catherine made a cake to have with tea and coffee. Elliot brought pastries from a bakery near him that had moved recently from Hudson, NY.

Caption: They recently returned from twelve weeks in the Phillipines where they have a fishing boat and are bulding a house. Darren had a Paternal leave from Vassar for most of the time they were gone. They worked in the garden. Jean Jean noticed the shed was insanely disorderly and asked if we wanted her to neaten it up. She did and boy was that better.

Caption: Arthur had been planning to come up for a visit and bring Will, his godson, with him. Will is starting at Marist college in the fall. The first stopped for lunch at Giacamos Italian restaurant in Wappingers Falls. They then came up here and we had coffee, tea and desert.

Caption: Oscar and Holly were sent by Catherine's (Murphy) gallery to pick up the painting packed and bring it down to the gallery. When I took their photographs and explained that I take everyone's photographs that comes to the house, they asked about Jehovahs Witnesses. Holly said "We're Jehovahs Witnesses."

Title: Ryan from Suburban Propane
Caption: I was looking out the kitchen window and saw a man in a blue jacket and hood walking around looking like he was looking for something. I went outside and it was Ryan from suburban propane trying to find the tank. I showed him where the tank was and took his photo. When he was done he came to the door and handed me the bill and a purple plastic bracelet, that said on one side Epilepsy Awareness and on the other side Savannah Rose, his daughter's name. He asked if I would pray for her and I said I would.

Caption: Ben came up last night to go to the Tom Friedman talk and dinner. I left the house around 3:45 and Ben arrived at about 5 o clock and picked up Cathy and brought her to Vassar. He spent the night had breakfast with us, brought his car in to be fixed, and worked a little bit on my site. Right now he's in the shower and is planning to leave to get to the city in time for a date at around 6:15.

Caption: Christina was thinking of coming to Vassar to have lunch with me and Tom Friedman and the students, the day after his talk at Vassar. I decided it was too complicated here to go, and when I called Christina to talk about it she brought up the other thing she wanted to do with me, which was to go over the images of student sculpture work from last turn. This was because she is planning the student sculpture show which will go up in a few weeks. So i suggested that she just have lunch here with me Cathy, Simon and Ben. Then we could talk about student work.

Title: Leslie Flood
Caption: Leslie came over to talk with us about replacing the material on the bench in the kitchen (which had gotten very worn), and recovering the couch cushion in the living room as well as making some through pillows. The main issue was how to make the piece of cloth with a print that had chickens on it that Leslie had in stock (at Leslie Flood Interiors in Millerton). I am pretty sure I rememebe rthat they may have been French chickens.

Title: Scott Berstell, Julee Whelin, Beth Hull, Mona Talbott
Caption: This August will be Catherine (Murphy) and my 50th wedding anniversary (though we have been living together 52 years). We have decided to have a party to celebrate. We went to Hudon to discuss the food with Mona at her and her partners store, Talbott and Arding, Cheese and Provisions. Mona worked with Alice Waters at Chez Panisse in Berkely, CA, and ran the kitchen for a nmber of years at the American Academy. We first came accross her when she catered a party at Polly Apfelbaum and Stan Allan's. She brought her assistant, Beth Hull, to the meeting at out house. Julee Whelin is a party planner. We met her at the reception after Pat Liefer's Funeral. Pat was Tim Liefer's wife. Scott is Julee's boyfriend who came along with Julee and it seems will be coming to the party to be of help to Julee. Scott knows Tim Liefer for quite some time because he used to date Maggie, Tim and Pat's Daughter, who died some time ago. After talking in the house we all headed out to walk the grounds and make decisions to do with setting up and operating the party. (see next entry).

Caption: Julee and Scott (see last entry) were scheduled to come over today. Mona Talbott and Beth Hull were also scheduled to come over. Mona and Beth got here first. We all talked in the kitchen and then walked around the grounds. (see last entry for details). Julee and Scott stayed longer to go over choises for various things for the party, tables, chairs, benches, dishes, etc.

Caption: Simon and I built the frame for the grass for the painting of Julia. The painting is being done inside but needs to look like outside. The the dirt was pored into the frame in Cathy's studio(Catherine Murphy). (Simon mostly) next dug up grass to put on the dirt. Julia came to pose, but by the time Simon and I finished it was too late for her to pose.

Caption: Corey and Linette, two Jehovah's Witnesses cam by to talk to me (the person who greeted them), about religion. There was a third person with them who waited in the car. We talked pleasantly for a while and when we were all ready to end the conversation they left.

Caption: We called Tim the day before yesterday to ask him if he could come and help us out in an ermgency. Catherine's(Murphy) model, Julia, had called the night before that to tell Cathy that her back was bothering her so she could not pose yesterday. We thought that if Tim could rig up some sort of partial chair so that Julia could manage this pose and everything could continue. If Julia couldn't pose anymore the painting (Head to Toe) would have to be abandoned. Tim came over and retrofited a metal office chair. Julia (see next entry) also came over so that she could work with us in helping to figure out what was needed to be done to the chair. Cathy was very grateful to Time for coming through yet again.

Title: Dean and Hector - Central Hudson
Caption: Central Hudson sent subcontractor to cut down two trees that were dead and near the power lines. They did a good job generally. They left the main trucks, which they said they could do anything with them because they weren't supposed to and suggested I call Central Hudson to ask about this. I did and it seems as if they will send people to take care fo the trucks, hopefully.

Caption: I was out doing errands when Simon arrived. He called me and I gave him instructions to paint the arms of the new chair we bought in Hudson yesterday. We had lunch and then Simon painted the window sills on the coop building and I and he installed two panes of glass. We started to pick axe a mound in front of the coop so that another car could park there for our party on August 18th. I left Simon working on that and I am now writing this. I will probably start working on the map for the guests at our party and as needed direct Andrew and Trevor in their weed eating.

Title: Mike and Jamie - Jehovah's witnesses
Caption: tMike and Jamie came calling to proselytize for the Jehovah's Witness' belief system. We talked for a little while and each did our thing, they hadn't realized that Corey and Linette (see June 2nd 2018) had come calling about two weeks before. I got the feeling they try not to come to the same house quite that often. Mike suggested I might like to know about a big jubilee (if thats what he actually called it) that was coming up soon. I told him that I probably didn't need to know that. They took down the address of this website.
