Mole Mole, Poughkeepsie, Dinner for Sophia Narrett (This video plays much better in Safari & Firefox than in Chrome)
February 26, 2019 Tuesday
Peter Charlap invited Sophia Narrett to be a Claflin speaker at Vassar College. He arranged dinner at Mole Mole. For the past years, we have been having large dinners of around 20 people after the artist lectures. Peter went to a dinner recently, which was much smaller and he thought it was better. So he told the students that the first five who signed up could come to dinner. Three students signed up. One of the students at dinner mentioned that some of the other students thought it was too much trouble to go to the building where the sign-up sheet was located. Because the signup was located in the same building where their studios are, this was a bit troubling to hear. I also felt that it indicated that some of the students who attended previous dinners were not enthusiastic enough to make any effort beyond simply showing up. Despite my feelings about all of this, the smaller dinner was more enjoyable and allowed everyone to take part in the conversations and at least hear what other people were saying. Sophia gave a good, well-prepared lecture.
