I took the group portrait early because it seemed to be getting dark and it started to rain. More people came later, and the rain stopped. Catherine (Murphy), in Tom's studio, tried to sit on a chair. She had a plate with a hot dog in it and had put her cane down. The chair was somewhat high and had wheels. Tom's floor is polished concrete and very smooth. The chair started to slide away and Catherine tried to guide it towards the wall. But it twisted and catapulted her to the floor face down. Luckily Dennis Cardone, our (Catherine's and mine) orthopedic doctor was also at the party. He ran right over, talked to Catherine, and figured out the best way for her to get up. She had a huge lump on her head, and the bridge of her nose was bleeding. He examined her face and also her replaced knees. He thought she seemed generally OK. Dennis was totally wonderful and we would have probably panicked if he hadn't been there. Kent Sepkowitz, also a doctor was helpful, as were Joyce Robins and Judy Linn. Everyone else was very supportive. Catherine handled the whole thing very stoically. We stayed at the party for about another hour. The next morning the lump had gone down quite a lot. But a lot of black and blue as well as a black thumb had appeared. We were talking about going to the emergency room when Dennis called to tell Catherine she should go to the hospital to make sure there wasn't a blood clot or broken bones. We were in the emergency room for four hours, but there weren't any broken bones or blood clots. - emails to me, Jul 22 (9 days ago): "Ouch! I'm making a beef burgundy for tomorrow's luncheon. I hope Cathy will be feeling better tomorrow. With all of our love, A & B July 22, 2017 Hi Harry, How is Catherine feeling today? That was the biggest bump I ever saw and I thought she was totally brave about the whole thing. Nice seeing you despite the injury-- please give my love to Catherine and let her know that Kent and I are thinking of her today. Love, Deborah July 23, 2017 dear Cathy, I just want you to know i am thinking of you and i hope you are not in discomfort today. love, sylvia July 23, 2017 If we can help in any way, let us know. Sally July 23, 2017 WE hope Cathy is okay after that fall. Now that I’ve fallen myself, I may have become insanely careful but I absolutely advise getting a scan because you never know for sure, that was my experience. Also, we enjoyed seeing the painting “Harry's Nipple” again in the Freeman announcement- it really stands out as a picture. yerz, Peter and Sally July 23, 2017 Hi Cathy and Harry, just want to send a big hug to Cathy - hope the pain has gone away. I am so relieved she’s all in one piece, what a scary moment. XOXO Jeanne"
